from 100.00

This class postponed until winter 2018

$340.00

We will create the finest shawls which contain only 30-40% wool and 70-60% silk and weight only 30-40 gram and then dye them with natural dyes using a combination of immersion dyeing andscreen printing technique using natural shapes (plants etc) as resists.

We will work with the extra fine silk gauze fabric from Usbekistan (so-called Margilan silk) in combination with silk fibers and fine merino wool (in white). Then we will dyethe shawls with natural dyes using immersion dyeing and screen printing technique. The first step (immersion dyeing) will be done with pre reduced indigo. Then we will add pattern in the second step. Tannin will be used as natural mordant and natural extracts (cochineal, madder, rhubarb) in combination with a thickener and citric acid will be used as printing paste. We will use natural(plants) and handmade stencils for the screen printing with these extracts and then fix the images by steaming.
