SHIBORI WITH INDIGO, MADDER, and POMEGRANATE

The workshop will focus on Arashi shibori pole wrapping, Katano machine stitch resist, and Itajime folding and clamping including using Kyokechi carved clamps.
We will begin with traditional techniques and move to contemporary adaptations.
Students will make natural indigo vats with both henna and whole fruit.
Using the one bath method we will work with madder red, pomegranate yellow, and combinations with indigo.
Ana Lisa will bring samples of Japanese indigo dyed shibori and examples of her own work.

about Ana Lisa:
Ana Lisa is known for her signature textiles based on contemporary adaptations of shibori. Her textiles are included in the collections of major museums including the Cooper Hewitt, the Museum of Art and Design, and the De Young Museum. Her work has been exhibited and published inter- nationally. She has taught and lectured at numerous international Shibori conferences and schools. Her awards include two NEA grants and she is a fellow of the American Craft Council.
