Book your OPEN STUDIO Appointment Time $40 Drop-In Fee ( LIMIT 5 people per session/ 1 per large table)

Materials & supply Fees :Charged per session

  • Indigo Vat Refresh for existing vats: $10: this includes thiox and indigo ( due to the cost of making an indigo vat and low enrollments of studio time, I am not promising a vat will be available. If there is a vat from a previous class it will need to be freshened or you will need to make your own vat- Plan to make your own vat and if one is available, consider it a plus!

  • Pre reduced Indigo kits are available for you to purchase and prepare if I do not have a vat prepared ( bring covered 5 gal bucket) ,

  • Propane Use for Dyeing and Eco-printing: $8/ session

  • Dyes & Mordants are available for purchase and are pre-measured by the gram

  • Plastic wrap for Eco printing

PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN MATERIALS ( string, threads, dyes, indigo…….)

All studio equipment is available for your use, 1 person to a 4’ x 8’ table. You may use dye pots, dye equipment, Shibori Supplies, dye kitchen, mixing equipment, propane stoves for heating ( propane fee) sewing machines, cutting tables, irons, eco-print poles for wrapping ( plastic available for purchase)

This is TOTAL Independent studio time- you need to mix your own dyes, and then at the end of session you need to wash your buckets, pots and tables. then things need to be dried and put away where you found them. This is not a teaching session; I might be working in the studio or doing administration work; however, I am available to answer your questions- but NOT to teach you how to do any techniques. For this we have classes. Those who do not clean up after themselves will not be permitted to attend in the future.

MATERIALS + EQUIPMENT

The following materials are available during Open Studio:  

 Dye: Induction burners, propane burners, dye pots are available for your use. Fiber reactive dyes, dye chemicals and mordants for both natural and synthetic dyes are available for purchase. If I have an indigo vat, you may use it; however you may need to purchase additional materials to refresh it or even to make a new vat. If you are ECO printing, I have iron and gallnut available for purchase, propane for steaming witll be an additional $10 fee ( please call ahead if planning to use propane stove so I can be sure to have full propane tanks) bundle poles available

 Sewing: 3 home sewing machines (1 Singer Heavy Duty, 1 Older Singer and a Juki lightweight, 2 sergers; 1 Baby Lok and 1 Bernina, cutting and sewing tables, sewing thread, general-use and scrap fabric, irons, ironing boards, pattern-making tools and rulers.

 Other: Tapestry Looms (2) Felting supplies, Silk screens, clothes lines,

Single user Equipment: Yardage table, Cricut machine, Heat Press, Industrial , Stove Top Steamer, Washing machine

 Not included in Open Studio:

 Specialty and class-specific materials are not included in Open Studio access unless a student is currently registered in that course and I have extra materials. not limited to: indigo, natural dyes, marbling size and paint, mordants, auxiliaries, yarns, roving,, book arts papers, leather hides and leather hardware, block printing rubber, and embroidery thread. If you have a question about available materials, email suzanne@ayafiberstudio.com

Please let me know in advance if you are dyeing in the indigo vat. Since a 3 gallon vat will dye only about 2.2 Lb of fabric, please be mindful of other people when bringing multiple items to dye.
