Membership Season: November–May

Aya operates seasonally. Memberships cover the 7-month studio season (Nov–May) and renew each fall. The studio pauses June–October for travel, planning, and maintenance. No fees are charged during the summer.

Good to know: Workshop discounts remain active for Aya Fiber Studio programs offered in summer. Discounts do not apply to Aizome Studio or Aizome Textile Travel Programs.

Membership FAQ

When does billing start?
November 1 each season. Joining late? Your rate is prorated through May.

How do renewals work?
Auto-renew each November. We email an October reminder with any updates.

Summer closure (June–Oct)?
No membership fees are charged. If Aya offers summer programs, your Aya workshop discounts still apply. (Not valid for Aizome Studio or Aizome Textile Travel Programs.)

Traveling mid-season?
Included sessions don’t roll over, but you can still use your member rate whenever you’re in town.

Pause/cancel?
Email info@ayafiberstudio.com with 30-day notice. Extended-absence prorating may be available case-by-case.

Policies (Quick Read)

  • Memberships cover Nov–May; no charges during summer closure.

  • Discounts apply to Aya-hosted workshops over $200 (excludes visiting instructors unless noted).

  • Plus tier: 1 FREE Shibori workshop per season, used within the same season; non-transferable.

  • Some materials/utilities are pay-as-you-use (dyes, mordants, indigo, propane, etc.).

  • Open Studio may be limited to weekends during full workshop months.

  • Memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable.

How to Book Open Studio

All scheduling is done on the Aya Fiber Studio website. Choose your date & session time and complete the short registration form.

  • Payment is not required at booking — pay at the studio (you can upgrade to a full day if you stay longer).

  • Sessions: Morning 9:00–12:30 · Lunch 12:30–1:00 · Afternoon 1:00–4:30

  • Saturday Session: 10:00–2:00

  • Rates: $40 / single session · $60 / full day

  • During heavy workshop months, Open Studio may be weekends only or scheduled around classes.

Check-In, Release & Safety

  • Sign-In: Use the Open Studio Binder at the front area to sign in & out each visit.

  • Seasonal Release: All participants must have a signed Release, Etiquette & Safety Agreement on file (once per season).

  • Self-Directed: Open Studio is self-directed (no formal instruction). A staff member is available to answer questions and assist with setup.

  • Pay-as-you-use items: Dyes, mordants, indigo, propane, etc. are available in-studio and sold by the gram (unless pre-packaged).

Indigo Vats: Available only when an Indigo class occurs immediately before Open Studio. Vat strength is not guaranteed. If you need a fresh vat, bring a covered bucket and purchase a pre-measured indigo kit (make your vat; take it home).

Studio Etiquette (Essentials)

  • Clean all buckets/containers/pots/pans: remove residue, dry, and return to their home.

  • Wipe down tables & work surfaces after use; sweep your area before leaving.

  • Clotheslines: Do not leave items hanging. Wipe the line, take down work, and bring clothespins indoors.

  • Do not leave empty buckets on the back patio; store in the shed after use.

  • Label personal materials; return shared tools clean and ready for the next artist.

  • Never pour dyes/mordants/chemicals down sinks; follow disposal directions.
