Which airports should I use when flying in for a workshop?

Most visiting students fly into Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) in West Palm Beach, about 45 minutes south of the studio. Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is about 75 minutes south and offers more flight options. Vero Beach Regional Airport (VRB) also offers select commercial service to the north of Stuart. Airport shuttle service is available, and many students rideshare or coordinate rides during workshops.

Where do students stay during multi-day workshops?

Students typically stay in Stuart, Jensen Beach, Hutchinson Island, Rio, and Downtown Stuart. Aya Fiber Studio recommends a preferred shuttle driver, Cheryl Thompson, who can pick you up at the airport and bring you directly to your hotel or to the studio. Students also frequently share rides, taxis, or rental cars once they arrive.

What should I bring to class?

Bring natural fiber fabrics you love (cotton, linen, silk), closed-toe shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dye on, a notebook or sketchbook for samples and process notes, and your personal stitching kit if you have one. Most specialty materials such as indigo, mordants, rice paste, large vats, and print tables are provided in class or available as a kit.
