Fabric
5 yds of washed, untreated, white 100% cotton fabric. PFD “prepared for dyeing” fabric is not required but guarantees best results. If you wish to experiment further, bring smaller amounts of undyed plant based cloth (eg. linen, hemp) or silk.
For Shibori:
Thread: Button & Carpet nylon upholstery nylon (stronger than regular sewing thread)
Sewing needles (large enough for button & carpet thread), thimble if you use one
Twine (eg. Kite string)
OR crochet thread, (if you have on hand or my favorite Aunt Lydias Fashion 3 or #10)
Waxed dental floss (any flavor. NOT Glide)
Embroidery sized scissors with pointed blades (not your best) or thread snips
Seam ripper (optional)
Clothespins--(plastic or wooden, the hinged type), if you have them on hand
C-Clamp 2-3 inch, larger ones as well if you have them on hand
A few pebbles, marbles or beans
A 2 gallon bucket, if you’re driving please bring one, if flying Aya may provide)
A pvc pipe, 24 inches long (maximum) and 1 1⁄2 to 3 inches in diameter. If leftover from plumbing project, outside surface must be smooth and non-perforated.NOTE: if you're traveling by plane, Aya has pipes to borrow.
Miscellaneous
A soft pencil
A 12 inch ruler (c-thru if you have one)
A notebook or sketchbook for notes, samples (optional)
Some gallon baggies (for shibori and to take home damp dyed fabric)
Rubber gloves
