For over 15 years, Aya Fiber Studio has been a trusted space where artists of all levels come to learn, explore, and create. Our thoughtfully designed studio features spacious work areas, a fully equipped dye kitchen, and a curated selection of fabrics and supplies available for purchase.

We keep our class sizes small (just an 8:1 student-to-teacher ratio), so you’ll get plenty of one-on-one support from renowned instructors in a wide range of fiber art techniques—natural dyeing, shibori, indigo, batik, surface design, quilting, stitching, mixed media, and more. Indigo Magic!
Indigo and Natural Dye Workshops
Learn how to make and create an indigo vat, the science of natural dyeing and color mixing. The use of indigo dye, or aizome, has a long and cherished history in Japan. The deep blue colors for which Japanese textiles are celebrated come from the leaves of the tade ai, a plant introduced to Japan from China in the sixth century. Shibori is a Japanese technique of manual resist dyeing used to make patterns on fabrics. Learn various shibori techniques and get a chance to make your own shibori creation. Classes are for suitable for all levels.
Eco & Botanical Print Workshops
Class topics include eco-printing, botanical printing, medium printing and more. Workshops are open to students of all levels unless specified in course description; beginners welcome.
Felting Workshops
Nuno felting is the process of combining wool fibers with silk to create a single cloth. Create gorgeous, one-of-a-kind wearable or decorative art , as you learn this fun, labor-intensive process. Classes are listed as beginner or needing prior experience.
Stitching, Boro, Sashiko & Sewing Workshops
Class topics include , sewing, quilting, surface design, garment construction,pattern making, boro stitching, sashiko stitching, beading, shibori, , and more. Workshops are open to students of all levels unless specified in course description; beginners welcome
Shibori, Katazome, Batik and Rozome Workshops
There are an infinite number of ways one can resist dye. You can bind, stitch, fold, twist, or compress fabrics for shibori, and each way results in very different patterns. You can use wax as a resist for batik, or rozome, and you can use resist pastes to create african adire cloth or beautiful japanese katazome. Workshops are suitable for all levels unless specified in the class description.
Surface Design Workshops
Surface Design is often described as the development of prints and patterns that can be applied to any surface. Surface Design workshops at the Aya Fiber Studio include deconstructed screen printing, fabric printing, collage, marbling, joomchi, paper making and quilt arts.

3D Fiber and Mixed Media
3D Fiber and Mixed Media workshops include all different types of workshops- this might include: basketry, encaustics, jewelry, or an other type of class combining multiple processes and having form.
Open Studio Time
Enjoy delicious, uninterrupted studio time. Open studios is a great way to try out the Aya Fiber Studio. Do you have a project you’re working on but need assistance? Do you have indigo projects to put into the vat? Maybe you need a large table or access to the dye kitchen? Come use ours! Maybe you’ve taken a class but need a little extra time to work. A drop-in fee of $40 includes access to our dye kitchen, print tables, sewing area, and small equipment, just bring your material or buy some of ours!
