Linoleum Block Printing on Fabric: Carve, Print, Repeat with Jeanne Brady
April 5-9, 2027 | Aya Fiber Studio
Stuart, FL
Carve. Print. Repeat.
Jeanne Brady is a Professor Emerita from Tennessee Tech University’s School of Art, Craft & Design at the Appalachian Center for Craft where she was head of the Fibers Studio for 19 years. Prior to her tenure at TTU, Jeanne taught at Appalachian State University and the University of Maine; and was a High School art teacher for six years where she instituted the curriculum for a newly mandated art requirement. Jeanne Brady received her BFA in Printmaking & Drawing and her MFA in Surface & Textile Design from the Department of Art at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Jeanne works primarily on fabric using textile pigments. She is accomplished in repeat pattern screen and block printing, mono-printing, drawing, piecing, and sewing. Jeanne’s work revolves around functional textiles and content-based pieces. Text is an important element in her work. A signature of Jeanne’s artmaking process is her pursuit of the ideal visual analogy of her ideas. Thus, she is very disciplined and highly exploratory in her creative approach. Jeanne’s fabric wall hangings and sculptural pieces have been exhibited both nationally and internationally, have received numerous national awards, and have been purchased for corporate and private collections.
Discover the satisfying rhythm of hand-carved block printing as you transform simple designs into vibrant repeat patterns on fabric. In this five-day workshop, artist Jeanne Brady will guide you through every step of the process—from developing original motifs and carving linoleum blocks to mixing colors and printing custom yardage.
Working with professional textile pigments and reusable carving tools, you'll learn how a single carved block can generate endless design possibilities. Whether your interest is surface design, quilting, garment making, or textile art, block printing offers a versatile way to create fabrics that are uniquely your own.
By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with a collection of hand-carved blocks, printed fabrics, and the skills to continue printing confidently in your own studio.
